How emotive spent Mental Health Awareness Week

Mental health problems affect around one in four people at any given time, ranging from more common problems such as anxiety to rarer problems such as bipolar disorder. In recognition of all the types of mental health problems, we as a team wanted to do everything we could to support this #Mentalhealthawareness week. We wanted to highlight its importance, share what we’ve done at emotive, and hopefully inspire others to continue similar actions throughout the year.

This year’s theme for #Mentalhealthawarenessweek put a spotlight on Kindness. In these uncertain times, we’ve seen so many acts of kindness to each other, from the Thursday clap for the NHS to food drops for those most vulnerable; however, it is equally as important to be kind to yourself. This week, we started #stoptheclock. At 1pm each day, the team was encouraged to step away from their desks and do something for themselves for 30 minutes, to boost self-esteem and have a positive influence on both their mood and day. Whether it was painting their nails, cramming in another episode of Bargain Hunt or playing Animal Crossing – it was all about being kind to themselves. Here are some pics of what the team got up to…

Our Mental Health First aider, Kate has led on many activities since she took on the role in July 2019; this week, she shared an animation of her top 3 tips on managing her well-being during the week in order to inspire those in and out of the office.

We also have a #MyVirtual initiative, which pairs up team members to encourage everyone to take some time away from their work, catch up and keep talking, just as we would do every day in the office. It was great to hear what a difference this has been making to the team. Check out their thoughts below.

Mental health is a big part of emotive and won’t stop at the end of this week; we’re continuing the activities going forward, with quiz nights, resilience training and ‘lunch & learns’ planned to cultivate the emotive team spirit. Watch this space to hear how these went!
