emotive awards student the 2021 Prize for Scientific Engagement

Congratulations to Alex Kennedy Mann, the winner of this year’s emotive Prize for Scientific Engagement!

On March 29th, emotive’s VP Medical, Lisa Parker, attended Stoke Newington School & Sixth Form in London to congratulate Alex. He received a laptop and book tokens to support his continued studies following a science writing competition, in which he wrote about coronavirus. His prize also includes a work experience placement at emotive and a 6-week internship following his first year at university. This initiative is part of emotive’s continued work to encourage young people to pursue scientific studies and to consider a career in the medical communications industry.

Alex’s colleagues, Huzaif Said and Abubakar Mohammed, were awarded joint second place in the competition and both received book tokens.

The prize-giving also coincided with the official opening of the new emotive lab at the school, marking the 3-year relationship between emotive and Stoke Newington School, which includes supporting their science department with an annual bursary.

Official opening of the emotive lab at Stoke Newington School

Here’s what Head of Science Jesse Hershkowitz had to say about the prize and opening of the new lab:

We are delighted that our partnership with emotive continues to flourish, allowing selected pupils the opportunity to gain significant work experience at the company. The Prize for Scientific Engagement and resulting publicity in the school will hopefully encourage even more pupils at Stoke Newington School to excel in the subject and choose science subjects at A level. It will also hopefully raise pupil understanding in the field of healthcare communications, one which they might otherwise not know much about. We have now named one of our science labs ‘the emotive lab’ and will be spending the money received on technology supporting learners in the science classroom.”

The emotive team look forward to continuing our partnership with Stoke Newington School and welcoming Alex to work with us when his internship takes place.
