Evan, Grace and Naomi joined emotive in September on our annual Graduate Scheme. They began their Med Comms careers with a series of rotations across the different departments of the agency; Creative, Medical, Technology and Client Services.
With the Creative Team, the grads were tasked with coming up with a brand for a fictional charity or rebranding an existing one. This meant designing mood boards and scamps as part of the creative process. This task was expanded upon in the Technology rotation where they built an html website for their charity of choice, complete with embedded videos, hyperlinks and a navigation bar. In Client Services, the grads shadowed several members of the team assisting with many different aspects of account management. Finally, a different medical writing task per day kept the grads very busy when in the Medical Team rotation, taking them through the multitude of projects that a medical writer can encounter.
Now three months in, we asked them about their experiences on the emotive Graduate Scheme:
Evan Thomas, Junior Account Executive:
“It’s been a really enjoyable few months. From day one, I could tell it was a really welcoming and friendly culture, which really helps ease you into company life. After the rotations were finished, we hit the ground running, which was great for learning about all the processes and workflow at emotive. The role is very fast-paced, but the agency dedicates a lot into supporting you and everyone always makes an effort to be approachable.”
Grace Revill, Graduate Medical Writer:
“Before starting at emotive I was quite unsure about what a career in Medical Communications would entail. Now I’m three months into the job and feel as though I’ve already learned so much about the industry. We’ve been working on some really interesting projects; I love learning about different therapy areas and collaborating with others. The office atmosphere is great- everyone is really hard-working and passionate about the work we do but we also have a lot of fun. I would definitely recommend Med Comms to anyone who wants a challenge and is looking to combine a love of science with teamwork and creativity.”
Naomi Cooper, Junior Account Executive:
“I found it really beneficial to experience working in the other teams before joining Client Services, as it broadened my understanding of the company and my role as an Account Executive. I also used it as an opportunity to get to know everyone in the office! Part of my role requires me to assign projects to writers and creatives as well as organising their time, so it was great to step in their shoes for a while.”
emotive runs a graduate intake programme every year starting with Graduate Assessment Days in the first half of the year. This year we ran two separate days, one to look for future Medical Writers, the other to find new Account Executives for our Client Services Team. With a growing team across offices in both London and Cambridge, Massachusetts, we will be taking on more amazing science graduates in September next year. So, look out for Graduate Assessment Days in early 2020.
