We celebrate International Women’s Day by asking three of our amazing senior women here at emotive to tell us why they value their careers in medical communications.
Dr Silvana Bardelli, Senior Medical Writer, has a PhD in human molecular genetics and completed her post-doctoral research at Harvard Medical School. She is also an active member of the PM Society Patient Engagement Interest Group. In our interview she said, “I particularly value the work we do helping new biotechnology companies bring advanced therapies to people that need them. Most importantly, I care about patient engagement as patients need to receive clear information concerning their treatment. This is a key area where excellent medical and scientific communications can make a difference and one that I’m personally very passionate about.”
Dr Gillian Boucher, emotive’s Medical Director trained as a physician before working in Medical Affairs within pharma and then Medical Communications across a number of agencies. Gill talked about medical communications through the lens of an HCP; “For me this is a career that allows me to use my medical background and develop programmes that help healthcare professionals learn about new data, share knowledge and create opportunities to discuss best practice. The role is very varied, is intellectually challenging and gives an opportunity to think about creative ways to engage people.”
Anjani Patel, Senior Account Director, worked as a Pharmacist before joining the industry and has been working at emotive for over 5 years in Client Services. Anj enjoys using her pharmacy knowledge where she can and talked about the working environment: “What I love about agency life is the team and the working culture. Everyone is passionate about their work. Working in rare diseases, where there are so many exciting new advances, I feel good about what we do. I recommend med comms for anyone with a background in science who is a good communicator, a creative thinker and who wants an exciting, meaningful career.”
