The Eye Education app awarded Bronze at the E-Learning Awards 2015

Designed by emotive for Johnson & Johnson Vision Care (JJVC), the Eye Education app has won Bronze in the Best Use of Mobile Learning category at the E-Learning Awards 2015, against stiff competition from all industry sectors. The award adds to the app’s already gleaming profile and cements its status as a user-friendly and effective mobile medical education tool.

Free to download, the Eye Education app was designed to help eye healthcare professionals in the UK earn interactive Continuing Education and Training (CET) points by delivering accredited, bite-sized learning modules that can be digested at times that are convenient to the eye healthcare professional. The interactive, video-rich modules cover all of the General Optical Council’s learning requirements and competencies, thus allowing eye healthcare professionals to use the app as a key means of earning CET points. The app’s interface and user experience was designed and developed for content provided by perceptive, one of emotive’s sister companies and the UK’s largest independent provider of continuing education and training for eye healthcare professionals.

Since its release in July 2014, the Eye Education app has been a resounding success. In addition to winning Bronze at the E-Learning Awards 2015, it has won an in-house JJVC leadership award and has received universally positive feedback, with 93.18% of users saying that they would definitely use the app again and 53.41% declaring that it’s the best distance-learning platform that they have tried. With 6,179 downloads, 21,089 course completions, an increase of course completions by 1,049% and a market penetration of 15%, the app has increased JJVC’s engagement with eye healthcare professionals via e-learning by more than 700% and has helped JJVC to maintain its position as the leading provider of education for eye healthcare professionals.

Andy Hastie, emotive’s Experience Director, attended the E-Learning Awards 2015 and led the UX team that designed the app. He commented:

Many of our clients want to provide medical education to often very busy healthcare professionals. One of the best ways to secure a high level of engagement with this kind of user is to deliver high-quality, interactive content straight to their mobile phone or tablet.

“When designing the Eye Education app, we focused on simplicity and usability. Our goal was to create a user-friendly app, with easy-to-access content, delivered in short modules that could be completed at the user’s convenience. We worked closely with JJVC to develop a straightforward interface that facilitates simple on-screen interactions and an intuitive user experience. The app’s astounding success confirms the design’s effectiveness, justifies the team’s hard work and makes us proud to have played a role in its development.

The Eye Education app can be downloaded for free for iOS at the iTunes App Store and for Android at Google Play.
