Summer interns at emotive

Summer 2019 sees the third year of summer interns at emotive. Every year, the winner of the emotive Prize for Scientific Engagement, awarded to an outstanding pupil from Beaconsfield High School for Girls, is given the opportunity to come to emotive for a week before starting university to experience life in a medial communications agency. This year we welcomed Sarah Stevens, the 2019 winner and awarded her a well deserved bursary to help with her scientific studies.

Sarah had a full and exciting week in the office which she thoroughly enjoyed; “Spending a day each with the Medical Writing, Client Services and Creative teams has given me a fantastic insight into MedComms; all of the carefully planned activities have been a great opportunity to learn some of the skills required for each role within the agency. I’m incredibly grateful for everyone creating such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere that made this week so enjoyable. Many thanks to emotive for giving me such a valuable experience.”

Scientific Lead, Kate Haynes, said “We are so pleased to be able to support a young woman at the start of her career in science. We hope that the opportunity to work at the emotive London office will inspire her and others to consider a career in the healthcare communications industry.  Perhaps in a few years we will see her back here at our graduate recruitment day!”

We are also very happy to welcome back Kristina Shaw, winner of the 2018 emotive prize for Scientific Engagement. Kristina has completed her first year studying Natural Sciences at Cambridge University and has returned to work with emotive during her summer break. Kristina has been getting first hand experience of projects as well as learning new skills within the areas of Client Services and Medical Writing. Her timing was perfect because she was also able to accompany the team on our 4819 offsite conference at a beautiful Surrey venue and learn about working in rare disorders, considerations when planning a global product launch as well as a few useful circus skills! Kristina already feels part of the team and we will be sad to say goodbye when her studies take her back to Cambridge in a few weeks time.

emotive is firmly committed to supporting young people in science and helping the next generation of healthcare communicators into this rewarding career. In addition to the annual Prize for Scientific Engagement, we sponsor a school science lab and support team members who want to return to their universities to give talks on careers in scientific communications.  In 2020 we will be expanding our support for schools with the addition of a prize for outstanding results in science subjects at a second school. The prize will include a bursary and the opportunity for work experience and an emotive internship.

Lizzie Nayman, Managing Director said “We are so pleased to be able to expand our support for Science into another school next year. Working with the young women at Beaconsfield High School over the last 3 years to give them an insight into the world of Medical Communications has been a real pleasure. We can’t wait to work with another school to celebrate and further inspire even more students.”
