New awareness campaign for Rare Disease UK

emotive. are delighted to have started work with Rare Disease U.K on the development of a highly creative campaign targeted at the general public, healthcare professionals and political representatives.  With more than 7% of the UK population affected by a rare disease at some point in their lives, Rare Disease UK advocates on behalf of those approximately 3.5 million people to drive better access to appropriate care and treatment. As part of their ten-year anniversary, a new approach for 2018 is a public awareness campaign that will highlight the large, and often hidden, scale and impact of rare diseases and energise the public to discover more about rare diseases. The campaign will be launched ahead of Rare Disease Day on the 28th February 2018.

Jayne Spink, Chair of Rare Disease UK and CEO at Genetic Alliance UK, said: “With one in seventeen of the UK population affected at some point in their lives, the chances are that each of us knows someone affected by a rare disease or have a diagnosis ourselves.  Despite this, public awareness of rare disease is low. We need to change this if we are to reduce feelings of isolation, and increase understanding of the common issues faced by patients and carers.  Better awareness can also help to increase access to support services and treatment, and secure funding and engagement in research.  We’re delighted that emotive. are bringing their creativity to our campaign – we’re looking forward to the February reveal.”

Chris Edmonds, Managing Director at emotive. added “We were privileged to work with Rare Disease UK at our offsite annual conference in the summer where we helped them map out a communication strategy for 2018 and beyond. Its thrilling to see this first piece come to life in the shape of an impactful campaign to engage with the public and heighten awareness of the impact of rare diseases. The team at emotive. have worked extremely hard and used our deep knowledge of rare diseases to come up with a great creative concept. We are excited to see it go live later in Feb.”
