emotive awards student Prize for Scientific Engagement

Hibah Tahir is the fourth student from Beaconsfield High School, Buckinghamshire to receive the emotive Prize for Scientific Engagement. She receives a prize of a laptop, £500 in book tokens, the opportunity to undertake a week of work experience, and a 6-week internship during summer vacation from university. She was congratulated over Zoom this week by emotive’s Client Services Director, Natalie Lilienthal.

emotive is committed as an organisation to helping young people who are studying science. The agency encourages team members to give career talks about medical communications and supports two secondary schools with bursaries for their science departments as well as prizes for individuals who have excelled in science. emotive has been working with Beaconsfield High School for 4 years and began a partnership this year with Stoke Newington School in Hackney, London.

The Head of Science at Beaconsfield High School, Simon Pearce, explained why Hibah was chosen by the school as this year’s winner:

“Hibah has studied Chemistry, Mathematics and Business Studies at A-Level over the past 2 years and is hoping to enrol at King’s College London in September to study Pharmacy. Hibah is a worthy winner of this prize due to her incredible work ethic, where she has left no stone unturned in her desire to understand her courses of study, especially in Chemistry. Even now, with the school year almost over and despite the fact she has not been able to sit her A-Levels due to the pandemic, she still contacts her teachers with questions that will help her understand the course in more detail. Her drive and genuine passion for knowledge is unique and is the reason for her consistently high attainment in the subject.

Her passion for Chemistry has led her towards a future pathway in Pharmacy, where she looks to apply her knowledge to a new scenario related to the impact of medicines, and the role that they play in modern healthcare and the wider society. Having outstanding individuals like Hibah entering the scientific community can only give hope and belief in our future. The support of emotive in helping Hibah through this next stage of higher education, encouraging our next generation of women in science to be at the forefront of their class, cannot be underestimated. We are grateful for their continued support and I know that Hibah will have the best possible foundation for success, combining that support with her own drive, passion and commitment to learning.”

After speaking with Hibah, Natalie said:

It was a pleasure to meet Hibah today and officially award her the emotive school prize to support her in her upcoming studies at King’s College. We had a great chat about all things emotive and it was wonderful to hear about Hibah’s keen interest in pharmacy, from her current work to her upcoming degree. We’re looking forward to welcoming Hibah to emotive for her work experience and internship over the next couple of years, to hear her insights from the pharmacy community and for her to get a feel for medical communications agency life.”

From Hibah:

It was good to speak to you yesterday and find out more about the company. I was thrilled to discover that there is more opportunity at emotive (beyond the 1-week work experience) – I’m really looking forward to the internship.”

While the pandemic has changed the nature of working practices at emotive, preventing work experience this summer, we look forward to welcoming Hibah and our other student prize winners and interns in 2021.
